How to Look Good in the NUDE

We are talking lipsticks here! Finding the perfect nude lipstick can be a real pain! It's a constant struggle of going too dark and your lips looking muddy or too light and you look like one of the zombies from The Walking Dead. That milky white lipstick look is no bueno!

As a professional make up artist, I get to work with women of all different ethnicities and skin tones. Finding the perfect lip color for myself can be difficult enough, but finding one for every one of my clients has definitely been more challenging. After some research and a lot of trial and error, I am here to share which shades of nudes I have found work best for your skin tone as well as my favorite suggestions, which are all CRUELTY FREE :)

ALABASTER SKIN:  Opt for a soft, dusty pink. I suggest Stila Color Balm Lipstick in "Olivia"

FAIR SKIN: Opt for a rosy-beige. Hydrating or glossy formulas tend to look best with this skin tone. I suggest Jouer Hydrating Lipstick in "Meg".

LIGHT WITH SLIGHTLY OLIVE UNDERTONE: Opt for a warmer nude. I suggest Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in "Nude Kate"

OLIVE WITH WARM OR COOL UNDERTONE: Choose a shade slightly darker than your skin. Opt for a more caramel beige if you are warm and a more pink beige if you are cool. I also think glosses are more flattering than mattes for this skin tone. My suggestions are from my all time favorite, Kylie Cosmetics. "Literally" gloss for the warmer tones, and "Damn Gina" gloss for cooler tones.

MEDIUM SKIN: I prefer a pink or peach that is lighter than your skin tone. My suggestions are from Urban Decay, Vice Lipstick in either "1993", "Stark Naked", or "Uptight".

CARAMEL SKIN: Opt for a golden peach nude, my suggestion is Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in "Nude No. 5"

MOCHA SKIN: Opt for a rosy or pink mauve and top it off with a sheer gold shimmer gloss. My combo suggestion is NYX Lip Lingerie in "Embellishment" topped with Cargo Cosmetics Essential Lip Gloss in "Sahara".

DARK SKIN: Opt for a shade slightly lighter than your skin tone. I suggest Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G in "Stoned Rose"

I hope this was helpful for you ladies! I know shopping online for colors doesn't always work so if you are weary of doing that, I suggest trying your colors on in store. After about three different swatches your natural lip color will change so try to narrow your options down to three!
